Mental Housecleaning

Week 5 of the Master Key Experience has brought an interesting notion that expands on the concept of being the watchman of my subconscious mind.  A mental housecleaning!  Most if not all of us focus on cleaning the physical house we live in weekly if not daily. But a mental housecleaning? It definitely threw a curveball that I wasn’t expecting. Yet it builds on the concept of building a blueprint of a Definite Major Purpose and deciding to let go of some habits while establishinto new ones in order to achieve along with “what you think about grows”. You know that thing known as the Law of Attraction.

The Mental Home

Haanel talks in Part 5 of the Master Keys about the subconscious mind and the impact that it has on where one is in life.  He also touches on the role that the Law of Attraction plays in this.

“We are today the result of our past thinking, and we shall be what we are thinking today, the Law of Attraction is bringing to us, not the things we should like, or the things we wish for, or the things someone else has, but it brings to us “our own,” the things which we have created by our thought processes”

Charles Haanel, Master Key Experience

Interestingly Haanel then draws what is a magnificent comparison that kind of knocks one up the side of the head when reading it.  Consider for a moment how much time each of spends on the house we live in.  The time spent perhaps building it or the time spent remodeling it; the time spent arranging and designing the layout of furniture, pictures and appliances; the colors the walls are painted.  All time well spent to make sure we utilize the best possible materials in order to live comfortably.

Yet very little time is spent on a home that is even more important, the mental home.  How often do you spend being the watchman of your mind?  I know that prior to the Master Key Experience last year I would occasionally but not nearly enough.  The result of the impressions accumulated on my subconscious over the years has been mixed.  The combination of negative and positive material used in building my mental home.

“It will be mildewed and rotten and will bring us only more and care and anxiety.  We shall be forever busy trying to patch it up.”

Charles Haanel, Master Key Experience

So how does one ensure the best material is being used within the Mental home?

Time For a Mental Housecleaning

The way to accomplish this is to recognize the importance of being the watchman at the gate of the subconscious mind against negativity such as fear, worry and anxiety.  To take the step of focusing on courage, positivity and optimism in order to toss aside negative thoughts.  And this is done by keeping the house clean by everyday doing a mental housecleaning.  Keeping it clean takes commitment and work in order to bring about change through replacing of bad mental materials with good.

“Mental, moral and physical cleanliness are absolutely indispensable if we are to make progress of any kind.”

The reward of making sure good, positive materials are utilized in one’s mental home?  Stay tuned on this courageous adventure known as the Master Key Experience!

Hi, Brad! Your blog post reminds me of something I heard many years ago. Our mind is more powerful than any computer. However, unfortunately, unlike a computer, our mind does not come with an instruction manual, and it’s easy to get lost. Oh, dear! 🙂
